Filming for TV

When planning our film we decided that creating a film to go on the television in which our characters could be watching could look very effective as it would increase the tension and mirror what was happening in ‘real’ life in our film. We also thought that it would be a good idea as it meant we would not be using anything that was copyright and be creative with our own ideas. However, when it came to filming our main story line we had to change our location, due to time and space, which meant changing the television. This then lead to us not being able to use this clip as the television did not accept memory cards.
Although we didn’t get to use this clip in our final film I think that it was not a waste of time as it gave us a chance to get to know the camera and its settings. It also meant that we got to look at the different music for a horror film and see how to fit them together using Adobe Premiere Elements.

Video Diary of Filming

Whilst on set for filming the short clip which we are planning on putting on the television we made a short diary which talks about what we had filmed and how we were going to use it in our film. We also show our surroundings in which we filmed that day and you can also hear the strong wind in the background which shows the weather conditions we had that day. This was an issue as it made the tripod very unsteady whilst filming.

Filming Schedule

Monday 30th January 2012
My group and I met up on Monday to film parts of our film. We met up at five o’clock so that it wasn't too dark and the characters could be seen outside. As we were one actress down, we filmed the areas that character 'Amy' was in which involved looking for her friend hearing the murderer in the house. The only prop we used for our filming was some ketchup on the window, which gave a slight effect on the window in one of our shots. We did not use any other props for our filming as we do not want our audience to know how our murderer is killing people, just that he is doing it

Monday 13th February 2012
Since it gets darker later, our filming started at six o’clock. When my group and I met up for filming on this occasion, since we had all our actresses and actors we filmed the other areas of our film. When filming the lighting on our camera looked bright and clear, but when we put it onto the computers at school we realised some areas were too dark. Also since we filmed on different days, our lighting turning out to be slightly darker in some shots, which would make it apparent that our filming was on two different days, which would not give a good effect of continuity. After finding out this our group have to re film the certain areas that do not match and are too dark.

Chosen Certificate

We have decided that for our film the certificate will be a 15; this means that it will appeal to a wider audience and it will allow us to include scarier scenes which may not be appropriate for a 12 certificate. However as the certificate is a 15 we will need to keep to some strict rules as we don’t want it to transpire that it is not appropriate for 15 years and therefore would be better suited to 18 year olds.

As the certificate is a 15 it means that our characters are allowed to make strong threats as long as they aren’t sadistic or sexualized, we are also allowed dangerous behaviour and strong violence as long as sexual violence is discreet and have a strong contextual justification. However we must be careful about using knives as any accessible weapons should not be glamorized.
