Warner Bros. Pictures
This institution is American and produces films and television entertainment. It has produced horror films such as The Exorcist, A Nightmare on Elm Street , Friday the 13th (co-production with Paramount Pictures) and Final destination. Therefore this institution may be an effective one as it has made a few well known horror films although I feel that it is seen for making films that are more upbeat and easy going which is not the mood we are trying to convey.
Whilst in the past Warner Bros was known mainly for producing musicals, they moved into other genres such as horror when audience interest in musicals started to fall. The first two horror films they produced were Doctor X (1932) and Mystery of the Wax Museum (1933).
DreamWorks
This institution is an American film studio which produces films, video games and television programmes. It has made horror films such as Fright Night, Paranormal Activity (co-production with Paramount Pictures) and Sweeney Todd (co-production with Paramount pictures and Warner Bros). Although these are well known films I feel that they are not focused enough on our theme. This may be because they have made some of the best animated films (Shrek , Madagascar and Shark Tale) and focus on humor. Therefore I feel that our film would not fit into this category and we wouldn’t have the equipment to make anything animated.
Paramount Pictures
This institution is again an American film production and distribution company. It has made horror films such as Sleepy Hollow and Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan. I feel that this wouldn’t be such a good institution to use as it hasn’t made many horror films. This may mean that the audience would feel that it wasn’t fitting.
Liongate
This institution is a North American entertainment company. It has made the series of Saw films which have become very popular and well known for horror and gore. It also made Hostel: part two which was seen as a ‘box office bomb.’ This seems to be a well known institution which has made some really successful horror films.
Working Title
This is the first well known British film production company that I have found and is based in London. This institution doesn’t tend to make horror films and focuses mainly on romantic comedies. It is a small production company that works on low budget films. This means that I am less likely to choose this institution as they don’t tend to make horror films.
Universal pictures
This institution is a subsidiary of NBCUniversal and is one of the six major movie studios. It has produced horror films such as Dawn of the Dead, Living dead series, Night Monster and The ghost of Frankenstein. This is a possibility as it has made a few horror films although they are not really well known like the others.
