Final Choice for Actors and Actresses

The pictures above show the final actors and actresses that we have chosen for our film. The first is called Amie who is going to play the character called Tara. We chose her as she is quite small and petite so looks vulnerable and an easy target for the villain. Her appearance is young and innocent which would be effective for her to play one of the main victims as the audience would feel for her as she dies first.
The second actress is called Amy and coincidentally is playing a character called Amy. We chose her as the main character for the film as she is a confident actor and doesn’t mind having a speaking part. We also thought that as she has blonde hair she fits the stereotype of the ‘dumb blonde’ who always gets killed by the villain. This also makes her look vulnerable and innocent.
Our final actor is called Alex and is playing the villain in our horror film. He is tall and quite broad which means when dressed in all black will fit the part well. We also decided that the villain should be a man as it is the typical stereotype in horror films and usually the audience find them more intimidating.

Final Location

Location changes
Our group has decided to use only one house for our horror film as using the two houses meant that it was difficult to get the same amount of light in each shot. Another problem that we would have encountered is that the rooms would not join together and it may become difficult to make it look normal for the audience. An advantage of using one house is that we can stay in one location all the time and it will not get confusing.

For the location of our horror film we have chosen a house as we feel that it is a setting that people can relate to and causes the audience to feel that the situation we have created could happen to them. It also will make the audience feel very uncomfortable as somebody’s house is meant to be a place where they feel safe and secure although in this case it is very dangerous. Also by using a house it means we are not outside so it is easier to make the light the same which means the continuity of our film works well.

We have chosen to use both Lauren’s and Ellis’s houses (pictures below) as they are a traditional setting. We are using two houses as Ellis’s house has a big window in the sitting room that we will use when shooting the scene when the two girls are watching television although Laurens house has stairs that have easy access to film so when we film this part of the scene we will use her house. I feel that this combination of locations will be an effective way to portray our film to the audience and increase the flow of the scenes.

Interview with actor 4

LOUISE HICKMOTT

B: What is your favourite type of film?

L: Comedy, I like to laugh

B: How many films have you watched in the last month?
L: I'm a bit of an addict, about 30.

B: Wow that's a lot, do you watch many horror films?
L: A few, not when I'm alone though.

B: What's your favourite horror film?
L: Paranormal Activity, supernatural stuff scares me.

B: Why do you feel you would be suited to this part?
L: I'm not sure really, maybe because I'm blonde, and blonde girls are usually the victims.

B: Have you had any acting experience before?
L: I was the main part in my school play when I was 5. I was Mary out of the Nativity.

B: Okay, that's helpful. Thank you for your time to answer my questions.

L: That's okay, anytime!

Film Poster

Lauren and I made this film poster using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Premiere Elements in order to get a professional image that you would not be able to create on paint. We decided to make this poster to show the target audience the genre of the film and the events that may occur in it. This is shown by the bold writing which is called Charlemagne Std and the vibrant colours. The colour red is very prominent in our poster, which connotes blood and a sinister tone to the film. The white stands for the purity and innocence that the victims of the attack have and also stands out on the dark background. I think this poster is eye catching and will draw our target audience in.

Film Name: Signature

Our group has spent along time choosing the film name as we feel that it is one of the most important aspects to draw audiences in. As none of the film names that we have been looking at jumped out at us we decided to forget about them and think of a new one. When we were talking about the bloody hand that goes down the window which is the villains signature symbol we decided that we could call the film 'Signature' as it is a significant part to the film. I think that this is a very unusual name which has never been used before; this means that our target audience might be interested to see what it is about as it is so original.

Equipment

Panasonic HM-TA1

We have decided to us the Panasonic HM-TA1; it is pocket sized and has a lightweight design which makes it very convenient to carry around to the different locations. It offers high quality shooting which enables us to take clear and defined videos for our film. It is very easy to operate which means anyone can use it. This camera has a 4x zoom which means we can get close ups of our characters and objects in a scene. The E.I.S (electrical image stabilizer) system ensures that there is the minimum amount of hand-shake which makes our film clip look even sharper. The Panasonic HM-TA1 also has an integrated USB terminal which means we can upload the videos we have taken instantly.

Tripod

We are also using a tripod with this camera as we want our scenes to be as clear and professional as possible with no hand shake visible. It also allows you to direct the camera in the direction you want it pointed in instead of being at an angle. The tripod we have chosen to use allows us to adjust its height in order to take high and low angle shots.

Mood Board

We have created this mood board to illustrate the items which appeal most to our target audience which is 15-24 year olds. This means that we can get into the right mind set as to what our target audience is interested in and may give us ideas to what props we should use in our film to keep them entertained and engaged. It also means that we can use props that have meaning to the audience so they can then relate to the characters in the film and will make them put themselves in the position of the character and therefore the film will affect them more.

Animated Storyboard

An animatic is an animated video of a storyboard. In the past, animatics were most commonly used for production of a film, commercials, show openings and TV series.
We felt that an animatic storyboard portrayed our ideas and thoughts about what would be in our film better than just having drawings. This animatic includes the shots and the dialect that we are planning on showing in the first 2 minutes of our film. This animatic shows the scenes and shots in conjunction with each other which gives us an idea of how the film will look and make the audience feel. It will also make it easier for us when we go to film our clip as it includes all the information which we will need. The animatic storyboard also allows us to watch the motion whilst having the different soundtracks playing over the top which gives us an idea of which one may fit the best. Another benefit of using a animatic storyboard is that you can decided the length of each shot on the computer before filming the scene, this will save time and be easier to edit later on.

Props

Tomato Ketchup
We may use tomato ketchup in our film as we want to use something that will look realistic as the victim’s blood. We are planning on using this when the victim’s hand slides down the window after the attack. I feel this is a good choice as it is very accessible and isn’t too expensive. My only concern with this product is it may not be solid enough and may not show up on the window.

Fake knife
Another prop we may use is a fake knife as we want the villain to have a signature weapon with which he kills his victims each time. We feel that a knife is the most effective as it will look scary in our horror film. We are planning on buying a fake one as we feel that it will be safer.

Toilet paper
We have decided that we may use toilet role as one of our props as we want the bad guy to look as scary as possible. We are planning to wrap his head with it so only his eyes and mouth can be seen. This is because we want his appearance to be as hidden as possible and as we don’t have special lights or effects that we can use we will use the toilet paper to make him look as unusual as possible.
